THE NAKED AND FAMOUS ANNOUNCE "A STILL HEART" ALBUM RELEASE AND "STRIPPED" TOUR.
The Naked and Famous are pleased to announce the release of their new album ‘A Still Heartȯ, a collection of acoustic interpretations of hits and favorite tracks recorded over their decade long career. The band will embark on a series of intimate live shows in the same “Stripped” format set to kick off in the US in March 2018.
These performances and recordings will give fans a chance to feel the heart of the group’s songwriting and performance prowess as TNAF reimagine the heavy electronic rock production that has made them a concert and festival favorite around the world for the past decade. “The concept of stripped back Naked and Famous recordings goes beyond just the bare bones of voice and guitar,” says the group’s resident producer Thom Powers.
“I’ve always loved minimal music and it’s been inspiring to boil these songs down to their core ingredients. At which point, reimagining them begins to feel like writing them for the first time.”On their return to Los Angeles, from touring the album ‘Simple Forms’, Alisa Xayalith and Thom Powers set about recording new versions of the group’s classic songs. “We started playing a few songs acoustically for the first time this year,” adds Xayalith.
“It was an amazing feeling to explore the songs in this way. We weren’t capable or confident enough to perform like this when we began the band but I think after all this time we finally feel comfortable.”So far the group has released stripped back versions of three songs from their catalogue including ‘Higher’, the infectious first single off ‘Simple Forms’, and a mash-up of two songs from their sophomore effort ‘In Rolling Waves’, entitled ‘A Still Heart’which comprises of fan favorites ‘A Stillness’and ‘Hearts Like Ours’.
Half a dozen more are in production to round out the ‘A Still Heart' album, to be released via Kobalt Music Recordings, and form the basis of the upcoming live shows. “Building a whole show based around this concept is invigorating,” states Powers. “We’ve always been proud to drive our live shows with as much production as we can possibly put into them and this approach is entirely new, challenging and exciting for us.
”After emerging with their alternative hit single ‘Young Blood’, certified platinum for one million sales in the US, the Los Angeles based, New Zealand born group has released three critically acclaimed albums to date. The latest album ‘Simple Forms’ was praised widely for moving beyond synth-pop to what was pinpointed as the group’s ability to create a “taut, dynamic atmosphere”.
Zander Hawley is a songwriter from Los Angeles. He began his career with the band Honeywater, and the band’s eponymous EP (which he wrote, co-produced, and performed) hit number 7 on the iTunes Folk chart and was reviewed by Mic.com as "four tracks of folk gold.” His first single as a solo artist, “Hid in the Little Things," was featured on the Fox television show The Following and his debut EP I Wish I Was received praise for its "mature sound...heartfelt lyrical delivery....and production" (AU Review). His debut LP "When I Get Blue,” written and recorded in Nashville TN, released May 12, 2017, and was reviewed as "an avalanche of feeling" (Atwood Magazine) and "acutely self-aware" (Noisey). He likes dancing and the X-Men.
